All the New Emoji Coming to Your iPhone

We learned on Tuesday that Apple’s upcoming update, iOS 14.2, would bring new emoji from the Emoji 13.0 collection. That collection contains a whopping 117 new characters to choose from, including seal, bubble tea, and the aptly named “smiling face with tear.” You may see this one around a lot.

If you’re counting the emoji listed here, and thinking “hey, there’s only 67! LIAR!” you’d be half right. I’m not liar, but there are only 68 emoji in this group. So, where do we get 117 from? Emojipedia counts each skin type as an individual emoji. Because the emoji that have customizable skin types each come with five possible skin types, that means there are an additional fifty options. Go figure!
