We shouldn’t expect the recent surge of cyberattacks on US companies to slow down anytime soon. In fact, expect them to increase — that’s according to United States Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
During an appearance on ABC News’ This Week, Raimondo told George Stephanopoulos that these attacks were not only “here to stay,” they would, if anything, “intensify.” That said, the Secretary took the optimistic view that cybersecurity measure are relatively inexpensive, and would not be difficult to implement for any size business.
Raimondo highlighted two-factor authentication and keeping proper backups as particular helpful against many of these types of attacks. The Secretary criticized the private sector for its lack of vigilance, and reinforced the current administration’s dedication to improving the country’s security issues.
“Certain components of the American Jobs Plan provide for investments to shore up the nation’s cyberinfrastructure … This week when the president meets with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and other world leaders, this will be at the top of the agenda.”
