Video Call Tip: Check This Before Your Next Virtual Meeting

We’ve covered webcams in the past — whether it’s built-in to your system, or you plug in an external model, cameras an essential part of your ability to video conference. But there’s a simple thing you can do to make sure that your calls look as good as possible. A very simple thing, in fact.

Please, before your next video call, clean your webcam. They get dirty, fast, and you might not always realize it. Take a good look at yours, though, and you might be surprised at what you see — fingerprints and grime, which reduces the quality of your image significantly.

This problem definitely plagues built-in webcams the most. After all, the webcam on most laptops is situated at the part of the display you touch the most. And on a smartphone or tablet, the webcam is always near the touchscreen, putting you even more at risk. But even an external webcam is easily smudge-able.

Take a microfiber cloth, or some other soft fabric, and wipe this gunk away, until the webcam is shiny and streak-free. That way, the next time you go to chat with your friends, family, or colleges, all they see is the best video feed possible, rather than a foggy picture.
