China to Blame for Microsoft Exchange Cyberattack, Claims Biden Administration

The Biden administration pointed the finger at China for the Microsoft Exchange cyberattack earlier this year. The Monday announcement joins the EU, the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and NATO in calling out the “malicious cyber actives” of China.

The government accused hackers based out of China’s Ministry of State Security of compromising “tens of thousands of computers and networks worldwide.” These hackers made off with emails from various organizations, including law firms, educational institutions, disease researches, defense contractors, among others.

In a separate decision, the Justice Department charged four Chinese nationals with hacks taking place from 2011 to 2018. These hackers were also linked to China’s Ministry of State Security.
