Are you a Facebook user? Listen up — a new hack just exposed the personal information of 500 million users. You could be among them.
While the news is still fresh, we do know hackers were able to obtain and publish phone numbers, Facebook IDs, names, locations, birthdates and email addresses. That’s an unfortunate amount of personal information.
Facebook claims this info is old, and stems from a since-patched 2019 vulnerability. Still, most of us don’t often change our email addresses or phone numbers (not to mention birthdates), so it’s likely some of your valid information, if you were exposed, is compromised.
While Facebook isn’t telling users whether or not they were part of this attack, you can use the website Have I Been Pwned to check if your email address has ever been a part of a data breach. Even if you weren’t compromised in this attack, there might be other breaches you weren’t aware of.
