We’ve seen hackers attack many different types of companies and organizations in the past year. One of the more surprises victims, however, is the U.S. grain supply, which has taken quite a hit in recent weeks.
So far, it appears at least three different U.S. grain distributors have been the victim of ransomware attacks. All three organizations are based in the midwest, and their operations have been significantly hindered by network freezings as a result of ransomware.
The digitized industry is about to head into harvest season, so it is an especially bad time to be dealing with a type of attack that locks up an organizations technology and networks. There is speculation that, because there have been three different attacks against these types of companies, that the hackers broke into a shared internet service provider or software that all three organizations use.
There is also speculation that these three aren’t isolated incidents.
