The Russian-based hacker group known as Nobelium has executed another cyberattack, following its infamous SolarWinds hack in December of 2020. This time, the hack focuses on a “wide-scale malicious email campaign.”
Unlike the SolarWinds hack, the US Government claims this attack was “typical of daily cyberconflict.” Microsoft, whose Threat Intelligence Center first revealed the nature of the hack, cheered the US’ improved preparedness for such attacks. These responses seem to imply that this hack was not as severe as SolarWinds.
The state-sponsored group is thought to be involved with Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service. Moscow denies any involvement.
