Last week, we learned that T-Mobile suffered a hack. It wasn’t clear at first how many users that hack actually affected, but the number now keeps growing. It now stands at 53 million.
The company announced it had identified an additional 5.3 million active customers and 667,000 former customers that were affected by the breach. That comes as T-Mobile faces two class-action lawsuits brought on by frustrated customers. The two lawsuits accuse the company of violating the California Consumer Privacy Act, a law that allows any customer to request all the data a company has on them, as well as a list of any third-parties that data is shared with.
One lawsuit also accuses the company of violating Washington State Consumer Protection Act over poor data security. These customers argue their data is at risk because of T-Mobile’s neglectful actions, in addition to the financial burdens of dealing with a personal data breach.
Information taken in the breach includes customers includes names, addresses, dates of births, phone numbers, social security numbers, and driver’s license information.
